Technical stuff

Most films are in fact on DVD, though a few come on 16mm roll film. The society obtained a grant to set up with a DVD projector, DVD progressive scan player, amplifier, graphic equalizer, speakers and a portable 10ft by 8ft screen. We have supplemented this with a laptop to provide performance information and advertising, and a sound loop system loaned from St. Giles church, Great Longstone. Unfortunately the in-house loop system at the Medway proved inadquate for our use so we continue to place a hearing loop round the seating area.

New for the 2009-2010 Season - a 14ft wide screen. A better mixing desk has been acquired (December 2009) so that a centre speaker can be used to boost the speech channel for English language films.

We have found that Ashford's War Memorial Institiute is better suited to the projection of 16mm films.

The first film of the 2009-2010 season was such a success with attendance that we have subsequently utilised the Medway's portable staging such that the back two rows of seating are raised up to provide better viewing.

In the main committee members set up the equipment each performance, taking around an hour. Meanwhile other members do the front of house tasks and others prepared the interval refreshments of coffee, tea and biscuits. A glass of wine may be obtained before the performance and during the interval.
